Default Misfire, Noise, Problems......

I just got around to installing the 1.9 rockers, ls6 springs, flowmatched injectors I bought from merlin 91/97

The car ran great for about 30 min, then all of a sudden the service engine soon light comes on and starts flashing a couple seconds later, i pulled over and popped the hood and the front exhaust manifold was glowing red and theres a tapping/knocking noise coming from the motor.

we pulled the plugs and all looked good xcept for the #4 plug which was wet with gas, we checked that the plug was sparking and it was.

other than that we stopped a little while ago because it started hailing/raining.

anyone got any ideas as what the hell went wrong?

Yes. One of your rockers came off the pedestal. You'll need a new pedestal and replacement rocker. I've seen it happen personally. And it'* almost always on the rear because that'* the hardest to install/check during assembly.

While you are at it.. get the LS6 springs off. With 97 heads you should only be running 105#. I'm not 100% if they help cause the heads to crack or not, but there is an issue with LS6 on 97 heads.

Question for our readers :P : How would a rear torn up rocker assembly cause the front bank to run so hot that it makes the front manifold to glow red? Just curious.

Notice how John mentions the #4 plug was wet and seemed to be the issue. Front manifold was merely easier to see and be noticed as glowing.

So, there'* more than one issue going on here? What would make the front manifold glow? How is the front bank affected? Inquiring minds... :P

I'm just trying to form a mental picture of what'* going on here.

Unburnt fuel from the #4 went right to the O2. Straight shot. O2 said:

Holy COW, this engine is running RICH!
Then Mr. PCM was told by the O2 what was going on, and leaned out all the injectors. Front manifold was glowing red from a lean condition.

well they did come off another 97 and there were no issues for that, and i cant afford to drop the money for 105s right now anyway.

ill pull the rear cover and see wtf is going on back there

now how hard would it be to get a replacement 1.9 intense rocker......

Read this topic:

Replacement rocker was sent very quickly. That would assume they still have any 1.9 HS rockers. They sell YT now.
