Fried keyless entry remote... I think
When I picked up my new (to me) '98 SLE a few days ago, one of the keyless entry remotes did not work. The dealer assured me it just needed a new battery (a claim which I unfortunately believed). Well guess what... I put in a new battery today, and I got nothin'. :?
I've read a couple topics on reprogramming new remotes in the TechInfo section, but my question is this... do I know for a fact that my current one is fried? It won't work with a new battery, but do the remotes ever lose their memory somehow? I'd also appreciate any recommendations on the best places to obtain replacement remotes. AutoZone quoted me ~$70 and I'm sure a dealer would be more... if that'* the range I'm looking at, I think I'll just live with one working remote! TIA -

Ya, I had this same problem. Check out the TECHINFO section here and go through the programming procedure before spending any $$$....All you will need is a paperclip and then short two pins out on the OBDII connector. Folow the instructions on how to program and you are good to go.
If you STILL don't get anything, then go to EBay.
All you need for a replacement remote is one that has the same FCC ID on the back as your original. Part #* can be different.

www.keylessride.com is one place i believe, otherwise definetly try making them work first

Keyless ride is where I got mine. Not as cheap as eBay, but you know you're getting the right remote, and their Customer Service is the best. If the included directions don't work, grab the cell phone, and they'll walk you through it.

The receiver has to be programmed to accept the unique code from your keyless transmitters. That includes accepting both of them, which have different codes. So you should start by reprogramming the receiver in the car like mentioned above.

Looking on eBay, I've had no problem finding matching FCC numbers (KOBUT1BT) for my fried remote... but the remote features are not always the same. For instance, some Cadillac remotes have a fuel door release instead of a panic alarm. Would the fuel door button activate my Bonny'* panic alarm, or would it just be non-functional?
