Default Dual Exhaust

Hey since i have a SE version..i only have one gay little exhaust pipe which takes the effect out of my car. I feel lower classed when i see SSE'* and SSEi'* and their Dual Exhaust. I was wandering through Tamara'* pictures and i saw she put Dual exhaust on her SE Bonne. I will be willing do spend what i have to spend to get that **** on there..lol. I think it looks damn sexy when your 4-door bonny is sittin there with Dual exhast.. Will it affect my performance at all? I dont know if it will or not considering the car isnt designed for dual exhaust so it doesnt need the output.. Anyways...What do i have to do??

This is what it looks like now..you cant even see the exhaust from the angle. It kinda pops out if your level with the car looking at it.

If you open it up too much, you'll rob backpressure and low end torque. The SSE and SSEi exhaust isn't even truly dual. Do NOT go 3". That'* too much unless you have a supercharger. Your best bet is to stay 2.5", high flow cat, remove the resonator, good muffler, and then split to dual tips if you like. Hector may jump in here with some good ideas, as he'* working on it, but I'm pretty sure about this. A good set of his headers would do you the most good.

Just keep one pipe ! It'* cheaper and MORE effective on our cars !

It similar to the Supra principle. When those cars get T66 turbos or dual T76'*, they can either do dual 3" exhaust, or a single 4". Well the 4" does the exact same with less weight and pipe. Same thing, I have a 99 SE and I have a 3" pipe since I will be doing many many modifications to my car.

Willwren, if you look at the Series II exhaust manifolds, it is so crappy, it creates huge backpressure anyways. When we ported out my exhaust manfolds, then engine felt more balanced and my torque dropped another 500 rpm. My car starts moving faster at 2500 rpm rather than 3000 rpm. I have a 3" exhaust and it does not slow me down. It just depends on your modification and how you put it together. I eat VR6'* (6 speeds) all the time and they move pretty quickly. You just have to figure out how far you are going with the car and then you can do things right the first time. I am sure once I do the ADTR Ported and Polished L36 heads on my car, we are going to tune it so it drop the torque peak on the car another 500 rpm which will get it moving faster. The Series II engine is restricted much more than the Series I in terms of exhaust. Just little things I have been discovering as we take apart and mess around with these engines.

And BonneAlien, the dual exhaust on these Bonneville'* are just a single pipe, just towards the back of the car the muffler splits it into two (stock) or people have 2 mufflers and have the pipe into 2 into those mufflers then out to new tips or stock ones. No Bonneville has dual exhaust, it'* worthless on these small of engines.

So Hector, how then would you handle the exhaust on my '00 SE, assuming I'm not planning on heavy mods to my engine? Is Bill on the mark with his recommendation?

Yes, I would go with a 2.5" exhaust, hi-flow cat, kill that resnator and if you want to have dual tips, have a muffler that splits into two in the back but it will kill some performance. It'* all give and take, if you just want better performance and looks then do the dual tips. I have my single 3" hidden under the rear bumper so I don't worry about looks on my car really, I am about going fast and turning quickly. Go with what you want.

Hey hector after telling will about the small and minor probs with the Series I headers, he told me that you have discoverd some flaws in the 3800 series 2 manifolds... After reading this I am wondering exactly what type of problems you found.... Also I see you ported out the manifolds..and it helped you overall driveability... How bad of a problem did you find? LMK what you found and where you found it.. Thanks Hector...

Ok, we are testing out some Ported Exhaust Manifolds (Series II). Here is a quick summary of the stock manifolds. The rear ones are tubular which are ok, they just need clean up and since they are welded internally, we just welded then on the outside and ported them out to the right size (to the gasket). The front'* however because of casting, make a really sharp turn which is horrible and creates a ton of backpressure making the engine not well balanced in power. We are still testing out the front one where we smoothed the turn out and are porting it out to the size of the gasket. It'* tricky but the front ones stock are horrible, its amazing that the engine even produces 200HP. We have pictures, I have to tone them down since they are 3MB each. Not good for the web. :P One we ported them, the power of the engine was more balanced, like a BMW engine. It'* amazing, definetly worth it. I believe real headers will make even more of a difference.

I already have the dual outlet exhaust--came with the car. But because it is an SE, they are hidden under the rear bumper.
