Default Car sounds like a vacuum cleaner cold after airbox modding

Why does my car sound like a vacuum cleaner LITERALLY when I start it cold? Within like a minute or two it sounds normal again. It'* done it ever since I drill and gutted the airbox. It does have a K&N air filter, but stock airbox.

Cold, sat mic on top of airbox.

Had a feeling on that one since the pitch didn't change when I hit the throttle. No way to maybe quiet it up a little bit??? It sounds sooo crappy when you first start it lol and sooo loud. Everybody that'* heard it thought I had a bad pulley or something lol.

EDIT: Will it be louder when I get a fwi? Or quieter... since it doesn't have a box to produce acoustic reproductions (kind of how your voice gets louder if you talk into a speaker box).

I've got a CAI on mine, and it literally sounds like a blown out water pump with bad bearing when it'* started cold...that'* what the dealer thought it was before I bought it. It'* just something I live with...it goes away within 3 or 4 minutes after starting it...

So essentially, to answer your question, it may or may not be louder when you get a FWI, but it will still be prominent...the intake is still pulling in that massive amount of air, but the sound will be coming more from down where the filter is.

I don't know of any way to quiet it down, it'* just the nature of the beast!

The stock air box has baffles, and resonators to quiet down that noise, which can also restrict the air flow. The reason for gutting the air box is to remove those restrictions, which then allows the noise to be heard, along with the extra flow. The only way to quiet it down is to put those restrictions back.

It'* hard to say whether or not the FWI will be louder, but it'* a pretty good bet that it won't be quieter.

lol then I suppose I will have to learn to live with it. There is a cool sounding hiss/whoosh noise whenever throttle is at a certain position just before gearshifts 1-2, 2-3, and lightly 3-4... but I'm determined that'* the tranmission making that noise because if you put the gearshift in second and hold the throttle in the 'sweet spot', it just makes a constant whoosh noise lol. All three transmissions have made that noise, and it amplified quite a bit when I gutted the airbox.
