HUD Windshield
My little brother used to post on this forum quite a bit. He is now in the Army and I'm driving his Bonneville while he is gone.
Recently someone smashed my windshield, so now I'm looking at getting it replaced. I'm driving a '93 SSE Bonneville with the heads-up display. Anyway, I was getting quotes on windshields and the price difference is nearly $200 between a non-HUD and a HUD windshield (That is a lot for a poor college student). Is there really that much of a difference?
I guess I've done some reading and found a site that says that the HUD will still work, but it won't be as clear or as bright. Is there a film that I can attach to the new windshield to fix the problem in that spot?

I'm surprised the price difference wasn't higher. I always thought it was. I wouldn't know how much of a difference it makes since I've had the proper windshields on both my Bonnes, but I'm sure it'* noticeable.

Pete the difference between the HUD and the non HUD is quite noticible....if you dont do the HUD windshield you will experience a Double image on the Windshield, also i believe the image of the HUD will be unclear and blurry

Does your brother have glass coverage on his insurance? If so, submit a claim and they will do it for you. If he doesn't, get the coverage, wait 7 days, and then submit a claim.

I've heard of coatings that can be applied for them. I have not looked for them though. Ask an automotive glass retailer.
If the HUD WS is only 200 more than the non-hud, it'* a poor quality chinese manufactured piece. We've had a couple here, and the owners were PISSED. One of them is posted somewhere here.
OEM HUD windshields are generally over $1000.

Just had mine redone a GlasPro two weeks ago, and it was $329.00 for hud and $269 for non-hud and yes there is a big difference.

the windshield in my 95 was a brand new chinese off-brand HUD unit and i saw the receipt for it.. $250...
it performed like crap, but it worked... just kinda like a blurry double vision
