Accelerator Sticks
Sometimes after starting car in morning (ambient 20-30 degrees F) and then run down the road to stop light, the accelerator sticks in the idle position. I have to bear down with very heavy foot (on gas pedal) to free it up and get car moving again. Seems to jam up or something, then requires force to free up. Any ideas, suggestions? TIA for any help.

Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body, and use some type of light penetrating oil, while holding it high and having someone work the pedal for you. Get that crap as far down there as you can. Gravity should do it for you. Then spray some of the same stuff on the Throttle Body pivot points before hooking it back up. It'* probably not a kink, as it'* a direct route from the TB to the Pedal, but it wouldn't hurt to look.

I had the same problem on my '92. I found that you SHOULDN't use WD-40 because I had to come back later, when cold temps started, and redo (clean) the whole thing again because the WD-40 had 'gummed' up.Musicman

WD-40 is the worst 'lubricant' you can use on anything. It'* technically not even a lubricant. It'* a penetrating solvent, and it evaporates. It chemically reacts with some other types of lubricants and creates the gum or crust you're talking about. A teflon based spray would work better on the TB linkages.

if it is the cable that is sticking, you would be farther ahead to replace the cable instead of lubing it. these cables are meant to operate dry. the cables arent that expensive and straight forward in replacing. its not that scary when it sticks pushing it down, but what if it sticks when its already down, not worth risking that situation in my opinion.

You are right about the sticking, but I have found that a lot of people never REALLY clean their engine a parts and keep them clean. My dad taught me that keeping the engine clean is as or more important than keeping the body (outside) clean. You can spot potential trouble spots (i.e. leaks etc) quicker. It also seems that "gunk" will build up where the cable and sleave meet. Musicman
