Default Pointers for changing rear brake shoes

Hey folks,

While greasing up the rear speed sensors, I noticed that the shoes on the back are getting a bit worn (probable source of some squeaking). Could anyone give me some directions (what to watch for, DONT DO THIS IDIOT sort of stuff) for this process?

Thanks

Aaron

Rule #1 Read FSM procedure fully.
Rule #2 Why don't you have a FSM?

Only take apart one side at a time, so you can always go to the other side to see how to put it back together. Also, lubricate the self adjuster to make sure it moves easily and will self adjust. When preadjusting them, set it so that the drum will just barely spin freely. Then when everything'* back together, put the car in reverse and backup and stop several times to get them adjusted.

This isn't from a service manual; its just how I did it last time.

If you have the large "U" shaped spring, be careful when reinstalling that. As BillBoost already mentioned, it'* quite strong and can draw blood. Also, if you aren't careful, and put too much pressure on one shoe over the othe, you can damage the wheel cylinder, or its boot. I used a brake shoe spreader that helped a lot.
