Default excited then shot down...

Well I was so excited, finally got the windshield replaced (no more rock pits etc) well as some of you may know they tape the windshield up top into place so it doesn't shift in the first 24 hours or so. Well tonight I took the tape off. The piece in the center of the windshield took a piece of paint .75" by 2" wide with it.

I was so excited, new windshield, audio system a few work hours from being complete, finally get a vacation starting sat. and the paint comes off which has seem to ruin everything.

what do I do to get it replace? I am going to call the windshield place in the morning (they did such a good job and the guy was awsome, I hate to be a bitch to them). What are repair choices?

i'm losing bumper paint as you can see....it was suggested to get the factory touch-up spray..since your loss is much less i'd suggest it...maybe even clear coat it after.....not sure though...personally i'd hit the windsheild people up first...they may even know someone and have it done for much less.......just my 2 cents: )

were you supposed to remove the tape? because they may not feel sorry for you if you werent supposed to remove it, granted its probably not supposed to pull the paint off either, but if you werent supposed to remove it to begin with..

LilHoov...yes, they tell you to take off the tape the next day. And it should come off w/o any damage to the paint.

Guys: Go to your local auto paint store and ask them to mix up your color in Dupont Centari acrylic enamel in a spray can.

My guy did two cans for me for less than $25.

If you decide to do this, ask me for directions on how to use the paint. Prep is simple, but necessary.

P.*. White paint may cause the problems noted above because it'* the only color that'* not clear-coated.

So I've heard. Don't know for sure.

I had to spot-paint my hood and it doesn't appear to be clear-coated. '99 SLE, Arctic white.

I'm pretty sure that they clear coat white, but probably not all that much due to white enamel naturally having a good gloss to it to begin with.

Well I called the glass place this morning and they are going to pay to have the paint fixed at a body shop (their choice). My mom and I went to the body shop today and it was really nice. The guy who was looking at it said that it looked like the roof had adhession problems, which he determined by the way the paint came off I guess. I don't know the cost of fixing the spot up front but I asked him how much it would be to paint the whole roof and he said they would probably want to take off all the trim and then they would have to blend it in...600$. So all new roof paint wont happen.

Have an appointment set up for 1.5 weeks from now. Unfortinately it can't be sooner because of my schedule. The guy said to just leave it open and let it flake off due to the wind. We'll see how that works seeing that I will be traveling 1000+ miles.
