Over Drive Problem

I have a 92 SSEi the car shifts throght all the gears 1-OD but about 10min after the car shifts into OD, it just jumps back to 3 and stays there till I restart the car.

I have no clue what the problem is, all I know it the car is a gas pig on the highway

Does anyone have an idea???

Check your fluid level? Getting any SES light?

rjolly87 06-30-2005 02:03 AM

does it vary with speed or anything?

S/CHappy 06-30-2005 02:18 AM

overdrive

The fluid was the first thing I thought of, but it's full. The car runs good and no matter what the speed is is does it every time it goes in to overdrive. I read in a repair book it may be do to a faulty ground on the transmission, is it possiable?

These cars are known for ground issues. It is very possible.

EDIT: Ground issues are possible, are there any other symptoms?

overdrive

There is no other problems at all, everything works good, Where would I finf the ground for the transmission??? A friend showed me one place on the top side of the transmission but the wires are like new, I'm really stumped

There was a reported problem related to the transmission's electrical connector, but I don't remember where I read it - there may have been a technical service bulletin (TSB) about that.
You should also check for error codes. There may be a TCC solenoid code or something else.

The quad driver has me thinking thast the TPS is failing.... But you will want to know what the PCM is seeing and doing...

There is a possibility that you may have a bad ground... But I'm not so sure about that one...

Some tranny shops will give you a free diagnostic on the problem...

Good Luck

Like JR is saying, it's a tough one. Mainly because as he mentions the PCM might be seeing something else and making the tranny do funky stuff.
