One of my darkest fears becomes a reality...

On our spring break trip down to fla. we stopped at a DQ, and when I was waiting for everyone else to come out to the car i looked at the top of the car where the metal meets the black trim thats above the windshield. What I saw made my blood run cold and is a car owners worst nightmare RUST. Just a little, but I know that it will spread...Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could stop it from spreading & prevent it from returning??? Keep in mind that I have a limited budget, so a repaint is a little too much $$$ for me.

What you really need is a rust converter. Get as much out with a fine metal brush, then use the chemical rust converter. After that, touch it up and blend it as best you can. If you're lucky, you'll get it all, and it'll stay dormant for a few years.

Most chemical converters will convert the oxides to a black color. They'll take paint at that point if it's cleaned well.

thanks willwren, my dad said something about a cemical converter. The rust is only noticable if you look hard at it, but I know that it spreads like crazy.
