Bet you a $5 that the sensor had some crap on the end of it...
Another thing I found out last night/today is not only are my gauges off for temp, oil and boost (new dash on way). But my rpm is off by about 200. Cfoote started honkin at me in the middle of traffic ...guess he spotted the Bonnie. So we hooked the Scanner up to his car as well... his rpm is off by 2-300....temp is off by close to 15-20 degrees. Only way to check oil pressure would be a mechanical gauge. Given the new round of information I'd be inclined to wonder more about the gauges then the motor as long as the motor felt strong. But don't quote me on that. I've seen the other to be true more often.....and I like to believe gauges.... |

I've got a new cluster on the way...I'm happy as long as I have a decent reference. But when your temp and oil gauges go into the red for 5 minutes then back to what looks like normal for the next 5 and back again... you tend to think you can't trust them.
Checked Dad's 97 Grand Am last night (I'm a scanning fool!!!) His rpm was on the nose...but temp gauge is off. Damn...none of these are accurate...GM is only giving us reasonable references... |

Most stock guages on average cars are a bit inaccurate. For example, my toyota does not have a tach, but people that installed an aftermarket tach on their identical truck, and compared it to an identical truck that had a factory tach they found that the factory tach is abut 200 rpms off. With our trucks, its simply a different guage cluster, the cheaper one with no tach, and one with a tach as part of the SR5 package.
