Alright, I've had a problem for a bit now with my 98 SSEI. The interior lights (including vanity mirror, trunk light, and all door and ceiling lights) no longer work. The radio, power seats, power antenna, trunk release, etc. all still work. The only thing I knew how to try was to check the fuses. According to the manual everything that'* broken is on the same circuit. I checked fuse 8B per the manual and it looks OK. I tried changing it out with one of the spares just to be certain and it still doesn't work.

What do I need to check next?

I would start by checking both sides (terminals) where the fuse plugs in for power. If you have no power coming into the fuse..none will come out to the accessories.

A multimeter or test light will both work well in this situation.

Heh, well got that figured out. Picked up a multimeter and 8B appeared to be just fine. I was looking through the manual and thought 6A looked promising. Turns out it was totally trashed. So, I replaced it and all my lights started working again...

Unfortunately, there'* a more serious problem. It seems as though the trunk light wiring is what caused the fuse to blow in the first place. When I first opened the trunk to test it out it didn't even light up. So I pulled it out of the enclosure and it would periodically turn on and off. I quickly noticed that the wire the light is attached to was getting hot very quickly. I don't know a ton about electrical stuff, but I know *that'** not right! I also noticed that the interior lights get REALLY dim when the trunk is open -- not good. So, there'* a serious short in the line somewhere -- I'm guessing pretty close to the trunk light. Unless this is easy to fix supposedly the place I had my car repaired at when it was totaled has a lifetime warranty on the stuff they do -- which should include this wiring.

Oh, and the fuse is out for the time being!!
