Oil Pressure

94SSEi

I have a feeling that my torque converter may not only be shot but it may be a dead transmission too. (It revs to 5K and goes nowhere lol)

But the oil pressure is ALWAYS less than 40, At Idle it is about 1/4 Inch to the right of the gauge.

Is this normal?

I need to know whether I need to get the whole drivetrain not just a rebuilt trans.

I would probably start with this:

Check the transmission fluid level to start. It may just be low. You just drove it home, didn't you.

Oil pressure, my 97 was about 40 when driving home at 1500rpm. The previous owner had let the dino oil go 2000 miles over. After an oil change and filter I am at 65 psi at 1500-2000 rpm.

If the pressure is still low get a mechanical gauge on it to prove out if it is low or a faulty sender/gauge.

The trans is a rebuild  by a company with no warranty

I will need to get the compression and real oil pressure tested as well to get a better answer.

the trans IS SLIPPING I have had a 4t60 with the same problem before, I sold it with what was presumed to be a bad torque converter. Serious slipping and banging.
