oil burn?
So i went out for start up yesterday and the oil level light came on then went away, go out and check and its at the add 1 qt mark. I have put quite a few miles on since the last change, so is this normal?

1 quart per oil change is about right on a high mileage car. Check around the valve covers to see if there's any seeping. This is a common place to loose oil. Also, look under the car. Peek at the bolts holding the oil pan on. The pan gasket also starts to leak over time.

didnt see any leaking out of the gaskets but when i pulled the cap off i noticed some yellow gunk collected around the cap

Makes me think you need a new PCV valve. Oil usage can increase if pressure builds inside the crankcase. When you pull the oil cap off with the engine running, is there a smoky vapor coming out the hole readily?

Thats what I thought too but a bit bigger problem now, I put 1 qt of castrol high milage synthetic blend in and also a can of 6cyl engine restore, I was driving around and noticed my pressure dropped badly, not moving much past 40lb, could my sending unit have gotten gummed up from the engine restore or did i add too much to the engine?

The engine restore is the silver can with the soda can style pop top, supposed to lubricate the crankcase and restore compression and all that good stuff. Made by Restore

Not trying to be clever but did you put the recommended weight oil in?.

I think the Restore thinned out the new oil some. As long as the oil pressure doesn't go into the red zone, you will be fine.
I have noticed with fresh oil changes, the OP will be real high, but after several weeks, the OP will average around 40. |
Well it scares me that it stays at 40 when it was at the next line up (60-80?) and it just dropped out of nowhere

While thinner oil flows better through a dirty engine's smaller passages, it also flows better out of any leaking spots you may have. Keep an eye on your dipstick and your parking space.
According to my Haynes manual, with straight 10W30 oil, a Series I motor like yours should be running minimum 37 psi at 2400 rpm. Otherwise, it might be overhaul time. |
Unless he's specified somewhere else, he has a Series II in that 95 of his. And according to my 1995 GM FSM, 60PSI @1850 RPM using low 30 oil. That's about what I usually see on a fresh oil change.

Ok, so when i get the chance ill actually change the oil. It must be the additive that lowered it, I didnt see any leaks when i went out to check and i checked my parking spot when i got to school yesterday after this whole thing occurred but that doesnt mean that i didnt miss anything.

Throwing engine restore at thus time wasn't wise. You only need restore if you have low compression.

Oh well ill change it out sometime and not put more in. I did clean my pcv out in my class' part washer just in case that had something to do with it.

Well after running a few days, the pressure is back up to normal, i also dumped some gumout fuel system cleaner in and its running great (aside from the transaxles that hum at 45+) and im getting alot better milage
