not getting fuel!
 

we have a 97 w/ 109k. In the past 3 weeks we have replaced-upper plentium, both o2 sensors, plugs, wires, fuel filter and NOW im not getting fule from filter to engine, its trying to start but gasping for ? Any thoughts? Burned out! but love my bonne. :?

Sounds like your fuel pump to me.

Have you checked the fuel pump fuse?

You said you weren't getting fuel from the filter to the engine. Does that mean you know you're getting fuel TO the filter, but not beyond? Have you checked the rail for fuel pressure? Have you listened for your pump?

Where is it? On a 97 SE. I couldnt be that lucky. Wont the pump make a noise if its working? If no noise is it a crap shoot between the two? Thanks. I have fuel pump to pick up today if i dont hear noise.

We are getting fuel to the filter and i dont believe we were getting anything from the rod or pressure valve. Im going to check for pump noise in a hour when someone is here to turn over key. Im really a chevy grl, this is first bonneville and im still learning (looking over husbands back) Ive learned alot in 3 weeks! :shock:

Disclaimer: I'm not a guru, but this is my understanding of the system.

If the pump's getting power, you should hear it kick on if you turn the ignition to "on" without going all the way to "start," and usually you can hear it from inside the cab so long as your blower and stereo are off, I've never needed to listen for it from outside the car. Mine will usually kick on for two, maybe three seconds, then turn itself back off after the rails are pressurized. Keep in mind, though, if the rails are already pressurized (i.e., if you've started or driven the car recently), the pump may not kick on at ignition "on." If you're comfortable with pressurized gasoline, you can depressurize the rails with a small screwdriver on the schraeder valve on the fuel pressure regulator (looks like a tire stem valve -- the same valve you'd use if you were checking the rail pressure with a gauge). If you do that, you might want to wrap a rag or something around the valve so you don't spray gasoline all over your engine and possibly you. :)
