Is it normally hard to produce boost on stock SSEi?
 
Im just curious. When I do hard accelerations, almost WOT my boost gauge barely nudges past zero. Why is that? Or does it only do boost at WOT?

And off topic, considering that my 96 has the colder coil pack of the years, should I upgrade to an MSD set? Im looking at these in particular:

Your boost gauge should read to the third quarter mark atleast at WOT, in other words 7 lbs or so of boost, chances are it IS boosting that much, however, you might have a leaky vacuum line under the hood....check for that first..or just one un hooked..
MSDs...well..you could get newer coils from a newer SSEi or something however, the MSDs do add a look to it, i have always had mine, since i had my first 93, its up to you really.

Yes...make sure you have no vaccuum leaks, but it could also be a faulty boost control solenoid. You should have no problems making 7 or more pounds of boost @ WOT. To test your BCS, unplug the vaccuum line from the BCS to the BCA (on the BCS side) and plug it. Then take your car on a spirited WOT run. Did your boost come back? If so, the BCS is likely at fault.

However DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR LIKE THIS. If your car ever needs to dump the boost, it can't with the BCS disconnected. Engine goes boom...not so good.

Boreas, you're making this very difficult by asking one question that should have been posted in FORCED INDUCTION, and another that should have been posted either here or in Performance and Brainstorming.

Please post your boost issue in FORCED INDUCTION so we can help you fix it.

For the coils, the change will be so subtle that I doubt you'll feel the difference. I did, but my SSEi is a little different animal that is very picky about it's spark now. However, I only did it when my old coils started failing. $130 for new coils 'because they're old' is a tough pill to swallow. Try it when you have a coil fail.

Whats the part number for the BCS? I would like to make sure I get the correct one, I ordered a part once on GMPD once and they sent me the wrong one. >:(

Wilwren: I hardly read or even post in Forced Induction, so when I made this post it hasn't crossed my mind that such a section even existed, and I honestly dont know how it such a big deal when I wanted to address the general audience anyway. On top of that, my second point was an after thought, clued by "off-topic", so you could have ignored that last section and easily moved it there anyway. :roll:

Colder, not older. Besides that, coils go bad in time and need replacing. At least that is my experience.
