Alternator installation
Greetings!
My '93 SEs alternator went south on me. Battery still is good, so I went out and got a replacement AC Delco alternator. Looking at it, it seems it should be an easy install [two bolts and Bob'* your Uncle!]...My question is: what is the best way to loosen/relieve the belt tension, and is there anything I should remember to do [other than disconnecting the battery]?....

It'* easy, and should take less than 15 minutes. The bolts you'll need to loosen/tighten are metric. I think it'* a 15mm socket for the bolt on the belt tensioner, but I don't remember for sure. Rotate that bolt clockwise and keep pressure applied (it'* spring-loaded) and remove the belt while the tension is removed, then let go of the socket wrench slowly to allow the spring to return the bolt to its at-rest position. The 2 bolts on the alternator are easy, and I use a crescent wrench or second socket to hold the nut while I loosen/tighten the rear bolt.
After the alternator has been replaced and the bolts have been reinstalled, release the tension on the tensioner pulley again and put the belt back on.

Be careful not to let it drop after the two main bolts are out and before you disconnect the one in the back. There is an engine coolant elbow that is directly beneath it and it is made out of plastic. Dropping your alternator on it and not realizing it will result in you being bitched at by my wife when we overheat on the way to the DR. 
Really, just watch out for that elbow.

Believe me she was pissed!
it'* *the* DR. and that means the Doctor. Day after changing the Alt, i overheated takinhg her to the Dr. She was pissed and I was perplexed for about 5 minutes until I saw where it was coming from. Replaced that crappy plastic piece of crap with a nice metal one.
