SUPERCHARGER AND OVERHEATING 93 SSEI
93 SSEI WITH 117K MILES RUNS GREAT! BUT....THE AREA I LIVE AT THE TEMP IS ALLWAYS HIGH BETWEEN APRIL AND OCTOBER OUR LOW IS 78 OUR HIGHEST UP TO 120) SO I CHANGED THE THERMOSTAT TO A 180 BUT THE FANS NEED TO COME ON SOONER THAN THE 230 FACTORY SET. ANY IDEA ON HOW TO PROGRAM THIS? WHAT SHOULD BE THE APPROPIATE OPERATING TEMP?
ALSO, MY SUPERCHARGER BOOST METER SHOWS ON THE NEGATIVE WHEN IDLING THEN GOES UP A BIT TO THE MIDDLE AND DROPS AGAIN. WHAT SHOULD IT READ? I HAVE AN 89 BONNEVILLE LE THAT RUNS GREAT AND FANS TURN ON AT 195. NEVER GETS HOT. HOW DO YOU CHECK THAT THE SUPERCHARGER IS WORKING IGHT?
I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INSIGHT.

2) The fans should be for auxiliary cooling rather than all-the-time running; have you flushed the cooling system recently? You shouldn't be routinely seeing a 230º reading on your gauge just while driving around. For that matter, you've verified that both fans really are coming on sooner or later, yes?

DO NOT do it. GROUND the high speed fan control relay instead.

FAN SWITCH
I FOUND A SERIES OF FAN SWITCHES AT PEP BOYS RANGING FROM $29 TO $49
THEY ALL USE A RELAY AND SOME HAVE ADJUSTABLE TEMP CONTROLS AND SOME ARE SET TEMP. I BELIEVE THAT ONE OF THESE KITS, SET TO 190 SHOULD WORK. THE COMPUTER WILL NEVER TURN THE FANS ON EXCEPT IF THE SWITCH FAILS AND THE TEMP REACHES 230 IN WHICH CASE, THERE WON'T BE ANY VOLTAGE SUPPLIED BY THE AFTERMARKET SWITCH TO THE FANS. SOUNDS GOOD?
