New or used wheel speed sensor?

Should I get a new or used one for the front of my SSE's ABS? I found a real good deal on aome used ones.

I know they die quickly, would it be worth the money saved to have to replace it sooner?

I tried to take out the speed sensor from my hub and bearing, but it was just filled with a bunch of crap... Not worth the time. Change out the whole hub and bearing.

The deal I found is on the whole sensor/bearing assembly. Should I go with new just so I don't have to do it again as soon?

Well, it's one of those parts that goes out commonly. I'm not sure of a good way to test the speed sensor until the wheel is back together again, then your ABS computer will tell you if it's bad.

I would go with a new one - they cost around $120 at Autozone.

I could get them, plug them in without installing them and see if my ABS light turns off. Oh, I also need a brake switch. The dealership guy told me if a wheel sensor goes bad, it'll burn out thebrake switch. Is that true?

Burned-out brake switch from ABS sensor? That's a new one to me...

I'm not sure it will work if you simply plug the sensor in, the EBCTM wants to see all four wheels registering at the same speed, and it does that while the car is moving.

I'm not sre if I believed him either.

My ABS light comes on before the car even moves, as I'm starting the car, even if I reset the codes. So I figured just plugging it in might work to check.

The bulb in my mom's 92 olds 88 burnt out a long time ago.

Do you have the ABS codes?

You may have an EBCM failure (rare) or a PMV failure. The PMV is about as common as the sensors. You may have more than one sensor out, too. You really need a good ABS scan to determine which components are bad. I currently have a bad PMV and 2 wheel speed sensors out. I removed the ABS/Traction warning lights for the time being.

The wrecker PMV I installed last year was also bad. This can be a very expensive part, and a PITA to change, but at least I got a refund, and re-installed my old unit. Got 2 good brake system flushes done, too!

The second time around took me 2 hours, start to finish.
