Neutral Safety Switch
Background:
'95 Bonne Turn key, nothing. Checked and cleaned battery terminals. Checked grounds (ok). VATS is working correctly (security light goes off a few seconds after key is put in ignition) Tried jumping starter, car started and ran to get home. Put into neutral and car starts every time. Will not crank while in park. I assume the NSS is bad and needs to be changed. Is there anything I need to know before changing? It looks as though it's a straight forward swap, just making sure I don't need to do any voodoo to the trans or gear selector before and/or during the swap. Any hints or helpful advice? Thanks, Drew |
Nothing to it. Just swap it out. Try to mark the old one so you can get the new on in about the same place.

Danthurs, thanks a bunch for the quick reply!!!
So I should leave it in park while swapping the switch? I thought I read somewhere that it should be done in neutral but I'm not sure. Is there any adjustment to the NSS? I assume there wouldn't be. Drew |
It wont mater where it is. The shaft only fits one way. It can be adjusted a little bit with a slotted hole.

where is the switch located on your car?
