about my high temps... well today i started up the 97 and the 95 side by side, and used an infared temp gauge to check the thermostat housing, engine block, etc. and found out that although the gauge on the 95 reads 60* hotter, the engine is roughly the same temperature! i'm glad the engine is not running that hot.. I did notice some possible corrosion on the radiator by the hose that comes out near the airbox. could a bad radiator somehow affect the gauge? :?

the only problem is, i have replaced the temp. sensor so i don't know why i am getting these bad readings, or why it is only some of the time... sometimes the gauge appears to read normal. this is why i thought the engine was actually getting hot. i figured that if the gauge was bad, it would just stop working or constantly read high, not fluctuate. today it read steadily high though.



another problem (possibly related) is that my fans dont come on. is this a fuse or relay that could be bad, and causing the gauge to read funny as well as disable the fans?

EDIT: is there another possible way to read the temp, that wouldn't also give me false readings? maybe an aftermarket temp gauge? (the dash one may be bad) and i dont feel comforatable not having a working temp gauge indefinitely.

My gauge on my 95 doesn't read right either. It actually reads good until the gauge gets to around 180*, then it starts reading higher as the temp raises. When my gauge reads 200* it'* actually in the low 190'*. When my gauge reads 240* it'* really only 210*. It only gets this hot when I'm sitting at ideal for a period of time, like in heavy traffic, with out the heat or ac on. If I turn the ac on it never goes above 220 on the gauge or right around 200* actual temp. I verified this with my scan tool.

I tried to replace my temp sending unit only to find it caused me drive-ability issues :? It was telling the PCM the temp was -31*, so I put the old one back in. The new on never helped the gauge read any better anyways.

See if you can borrow a scan/data log tool and hook it up to the OBD port so you can see what temperature the PCM is seeing.

I don't see any reason to start another topic on this problem. People that haven't read the other one don't know what was suggested to try up until now. Please copy this information over to that topic and continue.
