No Brights!
Awhile back my dad was getting out of the car and somehow knocked his knee against the turn signal stalk and ever since the part of the stalk that turns the brighst on and off doesnt work. Everything else works fine except for when you pull it towards you, when it would normally click, it is just limp. Has anyone ever replaced this? Is it easy to do or should I have the pros do it?

SUPER EASY. THERE IS A METAL ROD THAT GOES FROM THE STALK TO THE BRIGHTS SWITCH ON THE STEERING COLUMN. MAKE SURE THAT IT IS CONNECTED IN BOTH PLACES. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO TAKE THE STEERING WHEEL OFF, I CANT REMEMBER. I JUST HAD TO REPLACE MY WHOLE STALK. IT WAS EASY. ME AND MY GRAND DAD DID IT OURSELVES. IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE STEERING WHEEL OFF, MAKE SURE THAT YOU UNPLUG THE BATTERY FOR 20 MINUTES BEFORE DOING SO. YOU SHOULD HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM AT ALL!!!

Pull the SIR fuse and disconnect the yellow harness under the steering column before pulling the steering wheel. The little plastic cover over the base of the stalk just pops off. I think GM calls that doo-hickey the "multi-function switch" or something like that. Not sure on the price, but 94 may be able to tell you what his was.

thanks guys, I think I will tackle this over the summer (I hate finals). I need to get a repair manual thingie anyway. Should I get a Chiltons or Haynes?

Personally I like the Chilton'* better, it focused more on the Series2 while Haynes often had the Series1. Plus the Chiltons seemed more in depth and easier to understand to me.

Chiltons and Haynes are service manuals for do-it-yourselfers.
I used my Chiltons to rip up my dash board when I changed the cluster in my car. Go onto Amazon.com or something and search books for Haynes and Chiltons...you'll see what we are talking about
