Default 98 bonnie changing front wheel bearing,how hard ??

I am going to tackle the front wheel bearing what tools needed and other than pulling the caliper and rotor and nut on axle what else do I need to do ? I was told you did NOT have to drop balljoint or tie rod ? Thank you

You have to drop the lower ball joint...and coax the axle out of the bearing....you may need a puller if its stuck...its also easier if you take the tie rod end off the knuckle so that you can turn the knuckle to access the bolts for the wheel bearing.

Int are you sure? I had a Grand Am and it was pull tire, caliper, nut then three torx heads and it was in your hands...

That'* pretty well it. The bearing is bolted to the knuckle from the back and slides out the front. You can leave the strut and axle in place, this may work fine depending on how difficult it is to remove the bearing because of corrosion.

no you dont have to drop the ball joint

pull the caliper and rotor the hub has access hole get a torx t-55 or 60 i think 3 or 4 bolts pull the spindle nut thats that

I agree, i just did one on a Buick century and the ball joint doesnt have to get unhooked. This is a very easy job, just bring the hammer with ya.

The way I do it, my hands never got dirty. I take it to the local rip-me-off, and fork over 250 bones because it'* such a tough and tedious job.

After reading this thread, I'll never take the route again.

I would agree they wanted 250 for my brakes at locl shop. Think I paid 70 to do it myself.
The other tip if it is rusted use pb-bluster that stuff works great. The other that help is torq wench but be careful with one those if you not careful you could over troq it. It not really that hard

Actually, I never did. Usually when my car needs brakes, I do the calipers/rotors/pads/drums/shoes/springs/wheel bearings all at once. I'm having some health issues right now, but my 13 yr old son does my brakes and oil changes now. I supervise, and he does the work.

I have fixed more things on my cars than mechanics have. That'* why it makes no sense that I would not do my own hub assembly. I'll do them now though..

It cost me around 300+ dollars to do the brakes/rotors, and a couple calipers on my Caprice. I used performance friction pads, and autospecialty rotors too, which aren't nearly as cheap as the basic brake parts available locally.. It has 4 wheel discs. My neighbor'* blazer has a similar setup, and parts are not any more expensive, but instead of paying my son and I to do the work, he paid 500 bucks per axle to get them done at the professionals. Only to ask me a week later why his brakes didn't feel right. I said I'd take it back to the guy who made all that money off of you...and by the way... that rear wheel'* got some brake fluid lookin stuff on the ground next to it.....

I was born in a poor family, and if we couldn't do our own repairs, we'd be as good as walkin' I learned from my Dad when I was a kid. I have done many things on cars, but nothing too hardcore. I don't rebuild engines or tranny'*, and I don't like some big engine jobs either. For things like the hub assembly, or brakes, I'll do the work myself. these are basic jobs and shouldn't demand such a high price.

Since finding this forum, I assume I'll be doing more jobs that would have been done by a mechanic for too much money. I also never got into modding any car until I joined a forum, and got the advice of so many people, and pros alike..
