Default Bad sputtering problem...

I've been having some really bad sputtering problems since this "monsoon" decided to dump on Tennessee.

I've replaced the ignition coil, and it ran very well for a few days after that, but the sputter has returned.

I sprayed WD40 in the coil side of the wire boots and on the coil itself, but no luck...

When I pulled the ignition coil, it was a real mess... light tan colored goop all in there. I tried to get it out, but it'* SUPER sticky. Could this mess be causing the problem? If so, how do you clean it out?

Some clarification on the symptoms:

When you first start the engine, it'll run normally for about 1 to 2 minutes. After that, it'll miss occasionally, but will start getting worse and worse the longer the engine is running. It sputters through every gear, including neutral and reverse.

Check and clean all the connections on the ignition system. Use dielectric grease on the connections. Sounds like you got water in where it don't belong.

Is there anything I can use to clean out that sticky, tarry goo between the ignition coil and the module? I'd like to get everything as clean as possible.

Brake cleaner is the cause or cure to cancer haven't decided. But it will most likely get eh job done. but should use contact cleaner after the brake cleaner
