multifunction lever

i am buying a 94 SSEI, the lady i am buying it from said that the multi functon lever isnt working properly, the headlight brights and the cruise doesnt work. Is that a fuse problem or do i have to replace the lever completely? :?:

I would say the Cruise Control is most like fuse related. The highbeams is a switch, tho. If you hear it click when you pull the lever, it's somewhere else down the line.

Of course, the cruise coulkd be downstream somewhere, too...

the brights are only controlled by the pulling back of the lever so the lever is probably not the problem for that situation. it my be the switch in the column.

the cruise not working can be a number of things. A vacuum leak is a very common problem with an inop cruise problem. The leaver has a plug at the end of it and this may be loose. I don't think the lever is the problem it only controls the switches inside the column and other areas of the car.

I do have another lever if you want to try it. PM me if you would like it cheap.

Sounds like you've got a bad switch/lever. They're not fun to replace from what i've heard. :?

Welcome to the club!

Yeah, if you do need to replace the switch, it gets a little tricky. You'll want to have a guide like Chilton's to follow as you will have to disarm the airbags, and there are quite a few parts that need to go back together properly. It really helps to borrow, rent, beg, etc. a specialty tool kit that allows you to compress spring loaded components easily in order to remove and install them. Where I live, I can rent (for free) this tool kit from O'Reilly auto parts. I can also check out Chilton's at my public library. Not many people think of this, but it has been very helpful for me as I work on lots of different cars, and only buy the manuals for the ones I want to drive myself.

It is not difficult to tear into a column, but you do need to be careful and patient about the work.
