moonroof grinding problems

I saw a post similar to this, but it was 3 years old with no followups, so I'll see if anyone can help now.

my moonroof is grinding when it gets to the full open position, like a gear is stripped and it seems like it wants to keep going back into the car. also when i close it, it's supposed to stop at the closed position, but it goes past that, to the up position. so it seems like it's misaligned like it's starting and stopping in strange places. does anyone know what I can do to fix this... is there a procedure someone can write up to take the moonroof off and take a look at it without f... anything up? I'm trying to sell the car really soon so I want the moonroof to be working then, and I have little to no money to pay to fix this issue. thanks in advance.
