Default '93 2 questions

Hi everyone,

First off, I'd like to tell you all I'm new here. I didn't realize that there would ever be an online gathering point for other Bonnie owners... what a shock...

Anyway, I have 2 questions for all of you. I bought my car used, and when I got it the manual was pretty much shredded. I was wondering if anyone can give me some info about the Security Light.

I don't know what triggers this or anything. Just sometimes, seemingly randomly, the Security Light in the gauges comes on and it isn't possible to turn on the ignition. I want to know why this happens and if there'* anyway aside from waiting about 2 minutes to disable it.

Secondly, I just recently started having problems with the lighter in the car. I can't afford a good radio/CD deck as of now, so i'm using a discman with the Adaptor and Tape. It was fine up until about 2 weeks ago. I then noticed that the lighter housing was actually loose. A friend of mine suggested that I turn it and tighten it. Doing so really tightened the lighter up fine, but now it doesn't work. Not just for the CD player, it doesn't function as a lighter either.

If anyone can provide advice or help on either of the above, I would greatly appreciate it.

Check Tech Info for links to the online user'* manuals.

Security light is a touchy issue, but check and clean the pellet in your key. That'd be the most likely culprit.

And you should be able to take your friend'* advice about tightening the lighter. It'* also fairly easy to get inside the dash and check the connection on it. The plastic panels are just snapped on, but be care, they are plastic snaps in some places.

And welcome to the club!!

Or try another key. Do you know if you have the factory ALARM installed? If you do, it may also be affecting that light. It shares the light with the VATS (or passkey) system.

I CAN post the info requested, BUT FIRST I NEED the model year! if you put some info in your signature regarding what type & year of Bonneville you own IT WILL SPEED things up to get your questions answered regarding this post & future ones.

Ok,

First, thanks for all the replies.
Second, sorry it took me so long to get back.

Okay, I'm driving a '93 Bonneville... As stated earlier, I am having problems with the lighter and cleaning the key with a little rubbing alcohol took care of the security issue...

Now, the first thing I did with the lighter issue was check the manual to see which fuse corresponds to it... the problem is that the manual doesn't say....

So, my friend took a look and said that all of the fuses appeared okay... this means its a wiring problem. When it was loose and got tightened by turning it clockwise, the wire must have broke...

My friend told me to turn it counter clockwise and remove it... I did that about an hour ago in a parkinglot of where I work. There was nothing attatched to the lighter, but I couldn't see into the hole where it came from because I didn't have a flashlight, nor did i have any tools...

Didn't tighten the lighter up any either... I'm gonna take a look at it in the morning... sigh....

Any more advice / reccomendations are appreciated...

Uhh....now we need the trim level! Mileage sometimes helps too. And any mods you've made. Add it to your signature line.

Again, it will make the replies more speedy to getting you on the road to recovery!
