Towing capacity and package
I've read that the towing capacity of my '92 SSEi is approx 1,000 lbs but with the optional towing package would increase to a whopping 3,000 lbs. Is this the case?
Also, what did the factory towing package include? Was it just a hitch assembly and wiring harness, or did it also include things like tranny cooler, sway bars or something to that effect?

Supposedly they never wanted you to tow with an SSEi ... But the Owners manual does state 1000 lbs...
I believe that the tow package brought it to 2000..
When you ordered a 92-93 SE Bonneville with a Tow Package, you got Heavy Duty Cooling iirc, as well as the added tranny cooler and I believe tow harness, Not sure about the hitch...
The SSEi has the HD cooling stock.... Willwren used to have a Tow hitch on his car, but I don't think he ever exceded 1000lbs...
Do I think these cars will tow.... Yes I do... Would I do it with my car... Yes I would... But I have nothing to tow at this point so....
we have used my Friends 86 GA with the 3T40 and towed quite a sum with it... I think the trans has about 230K on it and its still going
I think the biggest thing is keeping the Tranny cool while towing so as not to overheat the fluid and cause damage to the friction material...
I'm sure a few others will pipe in with suggestions

I also believe the the HD Cooling added a oil cooler also...and the biggest killer of the 60'* are the heat...i would also recommend a Trans temp gague if you plan on towing

either way towing any "real" trailer is not a good idea on a fwd car PERIOD.

is the biggest trailier I would ever put on a bville or any other car for that matter.

I'm looking at it this way...
This exact same drivetrain, well at least the 3800 TPI and the 96 3400 Transport with the 4T60-E Light Duty could tow 3000Lbs with the tow package...
A friends family towed a 14 ft boat with their 87 Bonnie all over the place... They burned up the first trans at 60K, had it rebuilt at Ammco, and it shreaded apart at 80K... They did the rebuild soo bad that they had to buy them a new GM trans... After that they never killed off another trand towing that same boat through the mountains...
I would not conside it a good thing either to tow excessive amounts of weight with a FWD car either... As it creates a lot of heat for the trans and that heat can destroy the trans in a hurry...
Its amazing what I have seen people tow with 4T60-E'* here in Florida... Some of these peopl have to be crazy...
But I feel towing some isn't going to harm the trans as long as you keep it cool...
