I hope I'm posting this in the right spot and I hope it will help someone. When I first purchased me 92 SSEi it had a strange problem. First off it would spit and sputter under WOT, and then it started dying out when I stoped suddenly or was on a steep hill. So 1st I changed the plugs and fuel filter...Nothing. So someoone said airflow meter...Nothing. Next the fuel pump. When we pulled the tank we found the problem. The INSIDE of the tank was cracked in the sump area. So when you stopped suddenly the gas would slosh away from the pump and the car would die. I don't think anyone really would have come up with this and certainly no machine would have figured it out. Well put in my 255 pump and a new tank (Only $104 Shipped) and now she runs like a dream. Anyway hope this helps someone.

92 fuel tanks are not baffled like 93 and newer. 92's are notorious for starving for fuel under 1/4 tank in turns and braking. We've been in the 'know' on this for about 4 years here.

My 97 does this when less then a 1/4, it actually died on me once while taking an entrance ramp

The same symptom can apply to a tank with broken baffles or a clogged fuel strainer (pickup) sock on the bottom of your fuel pump.

i thought it was 94 and newer, Because my 94 was built in late 93 and it doesn't have the baffle.

Yours may have been replaced. My 93 is baffled. I believe there is a TSB for 92 only.

I herd this from 3 other members the it started in 94. but hey my car could be a freak.

Having personally removed and installed many tanks and pumps, I'd like to mention that the baffles are not always easily visible. The car manufacturers have been using a form of baffling for years.

It's possible you have baffles and didn't look far enough into the tank to see them. ;) Especially since the part of the tank we see is where the fuel sender is located.

Baffled tanks are 93 and newer. Period. As Pat said above.

92's are notorious for fuel starvation below 1/4 tank in hard turns. If any newer year does this, it's a broken baffle or a fouled strainer.

But it hasn't caused me any noticable problems. The baffle is broken ABOVE about 3" from the bottom of the tank in just one area. So if I BRAKE hard, it might come close to starvation assuming my tank was very low.
