Just ordered my valet 554r today, and i have two connections left to figure out before i receive it.

Where is the best place to find & connect to my tach wire in a 93 bonneville.

How do i setup the neutral safety switch input?

Not sure about the tach but the neutral safety switch is fairly easy to find. Pop the hood and look under your intake, there on top of your transmission should be a bundle of wires. There should be two looms, one large and one single wire. The one wire is your neutral safety switch. It goes from your trans to your starter. You can either splice into it somewhere along the way or disconnect the Neg terminal on the battery and remove the nut holding it to your starter, put whatever wire you need on it, and replace the nut. Dunno how helpful that is

Usually aftermarket tach'* have an induction wire. In this case, they usually get wrapped tightly around the #1 plug wire. Thats where the wire for my remote starter is (the one that tells it if the car started)

The tach wire is a white or light-colored wire at the coil pack, the fifth wire from the _right_ end of the connector, between two dark-colored ones.

If you search the archives for postings with the Subject of "Dashboard Diary Chapter" 1 through 6 you should find my adventures in installing a remote starter, including the tach connections.

You need to make one? You sure? Did you download the Valet 554r instructions in advance? If not, I'd wait and see if the instructions really tell you to connect to it, and if there'* anything else in the manual about it. Can't see why you'd need to, since the car would be in Park already; I can't think of a situation where it would be off but with the transmission in Drive...

I could get away without the neutral safety, but i dont want any potential dangerous mishaps. Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong .

the 554r is DEI'* 2 way paging alarm/remote start system. Before this one, it was the Hornet 554t, now it is valet 554r. From what i understand they change brand names around so that competitors in the same town can have access to all of their different types of remote start.

I kinda figured you were talking about a remote start. My remote starter has a "tach wire" wrapped around the number one spark plug wire (wrapped really tight and then zip tied) to let it know if the engine is actually running.

To use it, the car should be in park, so neutral lockout shouldn't be necessary, should it? When in doubt, tho, RTFM.

Inductive pickup, yes. BulldogSecurity and the one we're talking about here use coil pulses instead, but the end result is the same.

I agree; if the manufacturer wants you to hook up to the Neutral lockout, fine, but it seems like overkill to me. BulldogSecurity provides a plunger pin switch for the hood, so that the engine won't crank if the button is pressed accidentally while you're working on the engine (which _could_ happen; one of my cars started spontaneously one day while I bent over to wash it with a bunch of keys and my transmitter all stuffed into the same pocket...), but if this remote starter operates the same way as the others, by bypassing the ignition key, then the car'* own Neutral lockout will continue to function.

So unless this is a radically different design of remote starter, I'm not sure you'd need that Neutral interlock connection anyway. Tell us what the instructions say about that when you get it.

Hey, maybe it'* for _manual_ transmissions...? My Dad wanted me to install a remote starter on his BMW, except that it'* a 5-speed manual, which he always leaves parked in 1st gear. "Dad, I can't put one in your car. If you pressed the button in your kitchen, the car would drive up the back yard to meet you..."

That'd be a cool feature! Like the Batmobile. "Car, come" and it does. How lazy could you get to not even have to walk to the car? It'd come in handy at the mall tho...
