Low Pressure Side service port ????
 

Hi,

My AC is starting to take a little while to get cold and does not seem to get real cold anymore....I was going to charge it, but am not sure of where the Low Pressure Port is located...When I went to hook up the refigerant, the nozzle would not fit....The port I think is it, is when you look at the engine head on, over to the left I see a long Metal/Silver tubing, looks like it is coming from the firewall and runs to the front of the engine...On the piece closest to the firewall is a valve with a black cover...That is what I am trying to hook up to.....Is this wrong? If not, any ideas what I need to do to get the refrigerant cvalve to fit?

I am assuming that you are using a 134A can that you got from a parts store. being a technician, i am going to recommend you take it in to a shop and have them recharge it with a dye. the process involves more than just a recharge, it involves a recycle to see how much freon is in the system and how much is missing. with the dye, you can check it for leaks which can be death to the system. a dry system can cause a compressor to grenade and that will be costly as to you having to replace the compressor, the dryer and get it flushed and recharged.

Thats just me giving you the "right" way to recharge the system. I am strongly against the freon cans sold at auto parts store seeing as to a person does not know how low they are on freon and overfilling the system will cause it to not work as well as having too high of pressure and blowing stuff apart.

Also, one does not know if the clutch is working properly. it may be engaging but it also may be slipping not allowing the compressor to engage right, giving a warmer air coming through the vent.

thank you for the suggestion.....I would still like to try to recharge the system with the R134-a can. Can you tell me if I am looking at the correct port...I see another one close to the radiator in the front. That port is much larger and I am assuming it is the wrong one....

I need to know your year and trim of your car in order to tell you. Can you please include that in your sig? this will help everyone on the site help you with your problems.
