Low Oil Pressure?

i have very low oile pressure at an idle when it goe to low the car shuts down i canged the sending unit same thing i also hooked up a mechanical gauge low oil pressure with that, 15psi at idle. i dont think it could be rod bearings there is no unusual noises.

If this came on slowly, the probable cause is bearing wear. If it happened all of a sudden, maybe you have an oil pressure relief valve that is stuck open. I would disassemble the relief valve, and check it out to make sure it is not sticking. Perhaps buy a kit to replace the spring and valve. I'll try to find a picture for you.

Like Dame suggested, if the spring loses tension, the relief valve will open too soon allowing oil to bypass the lubrication system and lowering the oil pressure. If that is the problem, a new spring will restore the pressure. I think the spring is set to open at about 60 psi.

For those that didn't see it: I deleted my earlier reply because there's really no reason for me and bill to say essentially the same thing, check the spring.
