Low Oil Pressure?
 

:? Just a little confused today, as last night while just crusing around my oil pressure dropped into the red. :shock: Now I knew I have an oil leak, but the oil level was full. I was thinking it was the sender itself. Now here's the strange part. After driving last night & the oil pressure didn't rise, I parked it & decided to look at it this morning. So I started it up this morning & low & behold the Oil Pressure is back to normal. :? Questions I have are:
1) WTF?
2) Has this happened to anyone else?

Happened to me last month... Replaced the sending unit and all is well now... Running around 50psi..

At idle, mine will be below 40, and rise to the half mark between 40 and 120 under acceleration. Cruising it is about 50-60. Is that normal?

lol... yours should fix with the sending unit.. unless your like me.. whos BCM or Cluster or Wire or PCM or SOMTHING is screwed!!

Okay I've replaced the old sending unit due to the fact I snapped it clean off when I lightly tapped it! :roll: Now I've still got low Oil Pressure though when at idle & when at idle in gear too. In fact it's so low it sets off the "Check Guages" alarm as well. :x There is also a "knock" now that wasn't there before (or if was, it got louder). :? This has all happened in the last couple of weeks, since I tore apart the back head to replace that burnt Exhaust Valve. :? I was thinking maybe the Oil Pump in the Front Cover? Oil Pressure Relief Valve sticking? Something else, as the engine comes up to normal engine temperature the Oil Pressure lowers! :? One thing I've changed in the last two weeks was the Oil & filter. I switched from Mobil 1 10W30 Synthetic & AC Delco (PF-47) Oil Filter over to AMSOIL's Full Synthetic 10W30 Oil & AMSOIL's Super Duty Oil Filter. Could the AMSOIL be slippery than the Mobil 1 was? I do know that AMSOIL has less friction than Mobil 1 could this be my problem? If the Oil Pump was weak before, but not as noticeable due to the Mobil 1 in the engine, but when I switched it over the an even better Oil could the weak Oil Pump be not able to keep the Oil Pressure up with this type of Oil? I've seen it before on old, tired engines, but never on a 3800 yet. :?

Right now I can hear the lifters starting to knock on the top end. Or at least it sounds like them. :?

Brand new...Amsoil Super Duty Oil Filter too! :twisted: Sent an email to AMSOIL's Tech Info line for Dealers to see what they have to say about all this..... :?

Well since I lose more oil Pressure as the engine warms up, I'm thinking it's the Oil now (too slippery?)..... :? So tomorrow I'm going to add some STP to the crankcase to see if my oil pressure goes back up slightly (if any). If this makes a difference then, changing the oil will be the next step, as I can't afford the "downtime" right now (just got off 2 weeks vacation) or the cost to replace the Oil Pump either. :x
