Default EGR Valve

Posted this in General for some reason, should have put it here!

Okay, so my car tries to stall at approximately the same temp every time (about a quater inch above the 100 degree mark) and I suspected the EGR valve. Didn't (and don't) have the money to replace it, but I did pull it off, give a good lookover, cleaned the base, and put it back on. Tested it in accordance with Chiltons and it did seem to help a little (moved the stall temp down to where it is now). Would a new gasket help even more? Any other tips until I get the cash together?
