Question power steering pump shaft seal replacement

Hi everybody!

I searched the forum, but nothing came up about replacing the power steering pump shaft seal on my 98 bonnie. It looks like everyone just replaces the pump.

My pump was new 2 years ago, so I dont need a new pump. I just need a new power steering pump shaft seal (the seal right behind the pulley).

Is there any write-up on this? I want to try to do it without removing the pump from the car or dropping the cradle. It looks like there is enough room to get a puller on the pulley if I unbolt the pulley and go at it from the fender well.

Once I get the pulley off, how do you get that seal out of there exactly?

Thanks everyone!

Per AllData for my 97 Bonneville...

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

  1. Pump assembly from vehicle, if necessary for access.

  1. Protect drive shaft (7) with shim stock.
  2. Seal (11) and discard. (Use small chisel to cut drive shaft seal.)

  1. New drive shaft seal (11), lubricated with power steering fluid, using tool J 7728.
  2. Pump assembly to vehicle, if removed.
