Default Rear window wont go down and its not a 00+

I tried putting the rear window down the other day being it was 76 degrees outside and it wouldn't go down, tried all the switches, nothing. Then later in the evening I went out again and the window worked fine. Its not slow, made no noise, worked fine. Next day went to put the window down again, nothing. I know the 2000+ have regulator problems, but what about 97? The window gave no sign that the motor or anything was going. When it worked it went up and down fast, made no grinding or other noises. I tired looking through the pages on here but only came across 00+ issues. Any thoughts?

check the connections at the Drivers door Switches. See if the rear will roll down from the back switch

You're not alone, John....I have had this probelm on the rear driver'* side for quite sometime (sionce WCBF 2005 ). When it is warm out, it doesn't operate, but when it cools off (either seasonally, or at night/morning), it'* functional. I am planning on trying a different master switch as well, but haven't done it. yet

Don't laugh at me for this. Turn the ignition on, go to the door in question, and shut it so the full force of your impact will be used.

Push the switch in the direction desired, and POUND the door trim panel just below the handle/armrest with your other fist.

Chances are, this will free it up and it'll work. It'* good to excercise them all from the master panel during extreme weather.

Funny thing was that I was going to include that I closed the door a little hard a couple times and then pounded different places on the door to see if that would work, but thought I would get criticized here. But I have tried all that to no avail. And also something I have always done was to put all the windows up and down every once in awhile to make sure things stay moving. Plus it seemed when you don't do that the windows get slow and the motor seems to go from no use. Weird but thats what its seems from cars in the family. Thanks for the tips though.

PS. If i have to take the door panel off to examine, any suggestions so I don't break anything.

Just went outside, cold out, doesn't work still, pounded the door couple times, nothing. I did notice however, since it was dark out that when I used the switch the interior lights dimmed, but no window movement or sound?!

i slowly lost function of the driver front and driver rear windows in my 96. It would work now and again like you describe. Once you get the door trim off...its not hard to swap the regulator for a junk yard reg. The only trouble I had with the door trim was the black and orange lock indicator...anyone have a secret for that..I sorta re-engineered mine ..

i had this exact problem on my old 97. i tried the banging on it with the door closed to no avail. i ended up removing hte door panel and the track. and i found the top of the track to have a worn spot on it so it would stick with in the up position.

You didn't say which side you're having trouble with. But for what it'* worth:

I had to replace the driver'* side rear door on my '96 SSEi with a junkyard door a couple of weeks ago.

Before I took the old door shell back to the junkyard for disposal I salvaged all of the internals and still have them. The motor and switch works fine.

Make me an offer on any piece you need.

Default Window Motor

My 98 had the same problem, but on the driver'* door. Replaced the motor with a used one for $15. Works fine ever since.
