Olds 88 from HELL
The past three months have been H*** for me and this car.. first the TPS goes so i replace that, then after that the master cylinder fails soo i replace that. then the MAF died.. fixed that then the tps DIED AGAIN fixed that AGAIN then the brake booster died fix that.... so now the car is idling high again and the brake peddle will get stuck at the most random times just like the VERY random idle it comes it goes... so i thought ok must be the lower intake gasket. i changed the lower and the upper gasket at the same time yesterday.. 10 hours of working on the car just for it to STILL have a random high idle and sticking brakes... YAY! (when the brakes stick i have to pull over and turn off car...) so now im think when i replaced the brake booster i got a POS auto zone reman and it was bad from the start and i tried a new check valve for it too no difference =D and i think the high idle might be a bad IAC...
i unplugged the IAC when the idle was normal and drove around for 10 miles with no OD =) and the high idle never came back so please someone tell me im not crazy and its a crappy brake booster and a crappy IAC im loosing my mind.... thank you Twisted Evil

Hi and welcome to the club. I locked your post in the "Other 3800'*" forum, since the 88 qualifies in this forum. Just don't double post in the future What year is your car? You should add it to your signature.
(I wish i had some advice for ya...hopefully someone knowledgeable will chime in)

Your high idle could be caused by a vacuum leak. As the brake booster operates with a fair amount of vacuum, and that was recently replaced, as well as the brake pedal problem...that would be a good starting point for a check. Check both ends of the hose, as well as a good visual inspection of the booster itself and the fitting to the UIM.

all i can say is i have noticed in the morning it is at the worst the car will not come down from open loop it seems im thinking bad BB issue or the TPS i put in also a carDOOM part, But anyway back to the morning it will never get too bad it will just sit at a steady high RPM but wont bounce around like it would after hitting OP temp (so its known i have a 160 Tstat) the brake pedal is really mushy in the morning and takes a long time to come back up after being pressed.. if that helps any and so far i have new rear wheel cylinder new master cylinder and a new brake booster I'm about about to rip out every autozone part i have put in my car and buy replacement acdelco parts off of rock auto =D my car is a 93 olds 88 with 81k got it @ 41k 3 years ago and about 19k of those miles i beat the car =( i was young and stupid i guess its paying me back but i do take care of it... i was the stupid kid that tried to race everyone and everything after a HAI and a high flow exhaust ... stupid teen years...
