Leaking Power Steering Pump

Had a water pump fail on my 93 Bonneville SE (replaced 3 years ago) with not a lot of mileage put on it since it was replaced (maybe 10K). Pump apparently was wobbling pretty badly when it went which made the serpentine belt ride all over the place and eventually get pinched/ripped/shredded.

One groove of the shredded belt got caught behind the power steering pulley and wrapped around the shaft. This has more than likely caused it to pull on the shaft and now it is dripping fluid from the shaft. Looked at the NAPA website last night and they list something like 13 or 14 different pumps. Some with EVO some without etc. How the heck do I figure out which pump I will need. Is there a build code on the sticker in the trunk that might help with this?

Can the seal be replaced on the shaft or is that harder than replacing the pump?

Thanks for any help....

I would probably just replace the whole PS pump rather than try to service the seal only.

Call them up, give them the year, make, model, engine, and VIN #. They should be ably to hook you up with the correct pump based on that information.

There were so many options probably for different engines available and different buying options, ie reman, new, different brands, etc...

If you have a pulley puller I would replace the seal. It's like 3 bucks compaired to a 150 dollar pump. I replaced the seal many times with success.

2 seal kits at NAPA...$9.99, $12.99 or $17.99 for just the shaft seal alone. Shaft seal comes in the two kits.....go figure.
