Leakage during rain

It rained really hard last weekend and my fiance noticed that the little reading light right in front of the rearview mirror was dripping. it was only the one on the right and when i flicked it i could definitely hear something loose in there. any ideas?

nope, no sunroof. i imagine it must be the lining around the windsheild. do any of you guys know how i could pinpoint the leak and fix it without taking the whole windsheild off.?

Yikes. That's gonna be tough. I'd try a tiny bead of silicone caulking around the outside first. It might be enough. Other than that, you're going to be in for some work. Will your insurance cover it? Mine will if it develops a leak. That's a safety concern as it indicates the WS isn't installed correctly.

the only way I could think of with a windsheild is to take a smoke machine, and have the smoke trying to come into the cabin from the outside [sprayed if you will]. Other than that, there is no real "easy" method. Like the dollar bill trick on doors/windows.

before i bought my car, my stealership had a new windshield installed. it says on the receipt that it was a heads up windshield, but i know its not, and the cost was $250. it was installed by a diamond triumph company in west virginia. the top trim piece was not installed correctly, and doesnt sit flush on top. i brought it to a diamond triumph company in the cities, and they said the only way to fix it would be to take the whole windshield out. they said it would cause no safety concerns, however the other star windshield repair i brought it to, said it is a safety concern. the lifetime warrenty on the windshield only applies to the original owner of the time of install. so basically i am screwed.

now on to the good part. the top drivers side leaks. onto my new headliner

i am gonna have to do some caulking again

Check the right lower side of the windshield, it should say "Shaded HUD EZ-Cool". If the dealer installed the wrong windshield you may have a chance(small one) of getting them to replace it with the right one.

it says nothing of being a HUD unit, and its some chinese brand... :?

i know i will get nothing from the dealer, as i am 1000 miles away from him, and he was a jerk from the start...

waiting for that rock to hit my windshield right in the sweet spot so i can get a new one...think the insurance will let me install the correct one? i have heard they are like $1200

BINGO!! YES!!! I think you found my problem. I've been having this leak problem also. When it rains the water comes in along the passenger side of headliner right around the windshield and leaks from my map lights. I've replaced the sunroof strip thnikin it was that until Willwren told me that didn't matter. I then put a wire hanger through both drains holes and they are clear so it must be this problem. I know my car was in an accident b4 because of the overspray on the inside of hood and my lack of a SSEi emblem on hood interior. There is a slight space between the windsheld trim so I'm gonna try the silicone caulk today. Thank you I am glad to see you have the problem and no sunroof. :D
