Keyless won't unlock passenger door
I just bought OlBlueEyesBonne's 94 SLE, and the keyless entry will lock all four doors, but will only unlock three -- the front passenger door won't unlock, from either the key fob or the unlock switch on the door. Before I tear into that door panel, I'd like to know what I'm after. I think the wire for the unlock command is broken, but I'm looking for any suggestions.
Thanks, Jay |
Does the button on the door work?
From looking at the mechanism I think it takes more force to unlock since you don't have gravity helping... |
Could be a spring, like the issue with the 87-91 doors not opening when locked and such.

I've had this problem with both of my front doors. In both cases the doors needed a new bumper kit. Does the lock move at all when you press the unlock button?
There is a TSB on this problem. |
Nope, the lock doesn't flinch at all. No click from that door, nothing. The door is completly dead when I try to unlock it. But the lock part works fine, hence the reason I think the unlock wire is broken.

If the unlock wire was broken, it would not lock either. Both wires "rest at ground" in order to complete the circuit. When you press lock, +12v is applied to the lock wire and the unlock is already grounded thus completing the circuit. When you press unlock, +12v is applied to the unlock wire and... you guessed it... the lock wire is already grounded.
If it goes one way but not the other, it usually mechanical, not electrical. Explore the replacement bumper as fuddy suggests. |
randman -- you're right. I thought they were grounded to the frame.
It looks as though I need to do a more complete search of past posts before I ask a question again. This issue has already been addressed. http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ht=bumper+lock Topic closed. |
