Loss of power under load
Hello, this is my first time posting here. i have a 92 ssei that has recently started having some issues. First is the history i have of the car. It was well maintained by a family friend of mine, it has had a new ehaust manifold and the intake manifold was looked at by the same mechanic. Recently as in 2 days ago this bein 2-22-07, i had the cat replaced because it broke away from the rest of the exhaust. Now my problem is one that has progressively getting worse and worse....and me being a diesel mechanic i know nothing really about F.I. cars or carb cars for that matter. Ok thanks for bearing with me cuz thats all the history i know about the car. When I try to give the car full throttle it is almost like it just wants to stay right where its at. It doesnt die or loose RPM but it doesnt gain any RPM'* either, and when i do this the boost gauge pegs out, and the only other symptom is that it get worse as the car gets warmer. Example is i can give it almost full throttle cold and it runs great, then when its to full operating temp i can barely give it 1/3 throttle before it decides that it just doesnt want to go any faster.
Hope thats good info and thanx in advance for any help that can be given

Has it continued to do that since having the cat replaced? Do you know if it may need standard tune up items like plugs, wires, O2 sensor? May also want to check to see what your fuel pressure is.

yes it did this before the cat was replaced and after, as far as a tune up goes i replaced the plug wires before i took it into the shop for the exhaust, the plugs were solid still, but i dont know about anything else. I just want to fix this because the car seems to run really good and smooth...just doesnt like to accelerate to well once its warmed up

Start with the fuel pressure, then. The injectors need a good steady pressure to work properly. I'm not sure what the recommended pressure is for your year, but for many others it is in the area of 42 PSI. Also, pull the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail, and check for fuel in the line.

I dont have access to a fuel pressure gauge at the moment. Ok i am kinda retarted when it comes to this car, and i am not sure exactly which vacuum line i am supposed to be looking at so i just went out and checked them all and found no liquid of any kind in any of them, another question is when i do get a gauge where do i hook it up at? Like i said i am mechanically inclined but i havent had this car very long or really know anything about it.

The fuel pressure regulator will be a roughly cylindrical shape on the fuel rail that feeds the injectors. It will have a vacuum hose attached to it. Somewhere nearby will be a valve similar to a valve stem, but a bit larger in diameter - probably has a cap on it. That is where you'd attach the fuel pressure gauge. You can pick one up for about $40 at auto parts stores.
This is for a 2003 so it will be slightly different, but will give you an idea of what you're looking for.

its easy to see in the back on the fuel rail...follow the fuel lines and you'll see the fuel rail that sits over the supercharger..there is a schrader valve with a black cover on it.

cool, i thought that might be where it is cuz i saw a cap on it, but what i dont get is that my problem gets worse as the car gets warmer....every morning its fine then about 1/2 way to work (18miles) it just doesnt want to give me any more than 1/3 throttle.
