Just bought a Bonne

I just got this 94 bonneville se with 150,000 miles on it. It runs great and everything is smooth except for when i get up to high speeds. It starts shaking the faster and faster i go. Does anyone know how to fix this?

LittleHoov Jul 1, 2006 11:57 AM

Step 1: Stop going high speeds

But seriously, what kind of speeds are we talking here? The first thing you should try is too probably get your tires balanced.

like 70-90

hrmmm.... i would get the tires balanced, but usually out of balance tires usually show 55-65. also have them check the tires for uneven wear, and possible defects.

First get your tires balanced.

Check your hub bearings while they have the car off the ground. Grab the tire at the top and bottom and try wiggling it around. If it moves, you may have a bearing problem.

If all of that is okay, and it still shaking, you may have bad bushings, tie-rod end-links, unbalanced brake rotors or other problems.

Does it shake harder under braking? Does steering the wheel shake?

99% it's unbalanced tires...

It doesnt shake after i brake and for the steering part, I never paid attention so...

If you havent changed plugs and wires, I would do that unless they have been changed recently. It may be the engine making the car shake.

if she has alloy rims. they could be bent.

great suggestions, but back to the original question.

i would take it to a tire place and have them road test it and see what they suggest, and go from there. as a guy who used to deal with tires, my first suggestion from what you've described would be to balance the tires.

someone told me it could be the wheel bearings because they're rusty. The car sat in the dudes garage for 3 months before he sold it to me and the dude told me that when the car sits, the bearings rust. Could this be a possibility?
