Intake Manifold Gasket Install Question: Use Sealant?
I'm doing the upper intake manifold replacement (was using and leaking coolant) and decided to go ahead and replace the Lower Intake Manifold gaskets as well, since its so fun!
My question is the whether to use a sealant on the two rubber seals (approx. 6" long, 1/2" wide) that go on each end under the intake manifold. Shoud I use a sealant (like hi-temp silicone) on these? If so, how much?
I appreciate any tips and advice.
thanks,
Phil

Edit: Geez, that Harofreak is so quick! You may want to read this Techinfo article about this repair if you have not already: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=38
If you have Dex, drain it and flush the system. Refill with "mixes with any type or color" coolant using this procedure: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...=article&k=100

You're welcome. However, like Bill stated, you really need to be using the Aluminum framed LIM gaskets.
GM Aluminum Frame Lower Intake Manifold Gasket set: GM PN# 89017816
EDIT.... good you got them!

Welcome to Bonneville Club, Phil. I hope those are the aluminum frame LIM gaskets. Anyway, after you place the seals on the rails, apply just a dab of rtv silicone to the joint where the side rail meets the gasket that has been installed against the cylinder head.
