I'm the proud owner of a Bonneville! What do I do now?
 

Hey all,
Well, I've had my 1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE now for over a day, and I've begun to wonder, what maintenance should i do? All the fluids are fine.I was thinking waxing it, at least giving it a good wash, anything else I should do? Thanks for any help.

what kinda mileage does it have? are you interested in boosting performace? theres lots of people here who will jump all over ideas about that :-) let us know.

Check the maintenance schedule that came with your car.

94bonnyV:it's got I think 79,800, all i remember is its VERY close to 80,000. As of right now, performance will go on the back burner as I would like good gas milage. The more the better. But as time goes on, I'm sure the performance bug will bite.

jr's3800: Talk about in depth! New coils? I'm not a complete car idiot, but I am not sure of myself about these "coils" for all the things u listed for a tune up, about what price are we talking?

All in all, this is probably the greatest car I've ever had. From my 1993 Ford escort with a blast of 88 horsepower, this has been quite a bit of an increase. I just wanna keep it that way and make sure I'm not setting myself up for problems down the road. Also to anyone, I was reading earlier about that 180* thermostat. Is it really needed? I live in rochester, NY, so we get cold winters and warm-hot summers. Like a range of 0*F-90*F. What should I do? But as said before, reliability and gas mileage are number 1. Thanks. wow that was quick.

well heres my suggestions... and ppl can chime in if they disagree. these should all help gas mileage AND performance :-D (which is really the best way to go)

Spark Plugs and wires -- i've got some ac delco rapidfires on the way, but lots of guys here are using ac delco platinums and some others, one major thing-- stay away from bosch

Air filter-- i reccomment k&n should be less than 50 bux, but will definetly help a lot without the cost of doing a custom intake

O2 Sensor -- look in techinfo for parts and stuff. Your car might have 2 im not quite sure (someone else can help out on that)

fuel filter -- again.. techinfo for parts

on top of that there are some great mod's for intake that would help you out a lot... look around see what everyone has done :-)

Would an intake make that much of a difference?
 

If it were worth it, I would definately get a K&N intake. Will it really help my fuel efficiency? I thought intakes were for better performance. Thanks

what do the coils do again??? And what is the value in replacing them?

i might be off my rocker....but didnt 97 se's have the plastic intake? so wouldnt it be good to get a 180 t-stat? either or its a 5 dollar replacement id say do it(make sure you grab the o-ring/gasket when you buy the t-stat. check out tranny coolers as well. that will help keep some life to your tranny.
