Idle/Stall problem!!!

I have a 1992 Buick Park Avenue with the 3800 series 1 NON supercharged V6. My car idles eratically when in park or drive. The rpm flucuates between 1100 and 600 then it will just die. I took it to the dealer four times for this and they cant find anything wrong with it. No error codes show up. I have replace the ignition system,IAC,PCV,vacuum house,O2 sensor, air filter, fuel filter. The dealer did say that my intake manifold gasket is leaking, but not enough to cause the car to die. I do also have a stage 1 Fastchip in car. If its not the intake gasket what could it be???

I can't imagine why the dealer would not think the intake gasket leak was causing the erradic idle. When I was messing around with old BMWs, the gurus on the board always harped about making sure that there were no intake leaks, because the leaks let in "false air", air that the computer didn't know about, so it can't possibly accurately meter the air and fuel. That would create the idle flucuations, because the computer is constantly trying to adjust because of extra air that isn't being measured by the sensors. Get the gasket fixed and see what happens. I bet the idle will smooth out.

Are you losing coolant it could be tring to burn it if your upper intake is bad

No my coolent level is fine.

yes the car is drivable. It does it either cold or hot, but mostly when it has been runnig for like 20 min. If you hold the throttle it will smoothe out, but if you let off real quick it may die. Its really an intermiten problem, sometimes the car with drive fine, its just depends what mood its in![/quote]

If the PCM is fried how much does that cost to fix? The PCM isnt that the silver box that contains the chip?

Just got the intake gasket fixed. It ran fine for two days. Still has the same problem. What do I do now?

I have never got any codes from the computer.

I'm gonna have to defer to Jr on this one. I'm stumped. We've been at this awhile, and that PCM is looking kinda juicy. With all the other parts you've tried already, though, I'd feel pretty bad if you did the PCM and it didn't work. I just can't think of anything else it might be....longshots......maybe a plugged cat? But you'd lose top end power. How's the power above 4k rpms or so?
