Coolant swap or flush? Tranny too...
I'm doing a TB Swap this weekend, so i'll be needing to add some coolant anyways. But i'm thinking of just doing all the coolant myself, or having it flushed by the repair shop my mom does the books for.
I bought the car @ 106k and now i'm @ 147k. Haven't really touched the coolant ever, she still runs at a good temp, but i don't want to push it with summer coming, and my car getting into this mileage range. Would a flush be beneficial at this time, and then I could just do fluid swaps on my own later down the road?
Same thing with the Tranny as well. I haven't done anything with it at all, never had a reason too, the fluid is darker than in a bottle, but it'* nothing bad. I was thinking fluid swap not a flush since i'm not aware when my transmission was service last (might be possible to find this info)

Coolant: This is one where I'm on the fence. You can do it or skip it. Although there are conditioners etc in coolant that might be lacking in older coolant.
Trans: Drop pan and filter/fluid at the minimum. A full flush would be nice, although you want to make sure they drop the pan and change the filter at the same time.

Tranny: I'm just worried about the "ol tranny and flush= no tranny" i hear about. I'm almost @ 150k miles with no problems (knock on wood)
First gear shifts are still very good, damemorder'* brother thought they were almost too firm 2 years ago. All shifts still occur when they should, TCC does what it is supposed to. I'll probably put on an adjustable vacuum modulator on as well. this spring.

Here'* the fact behind the fiction.
Most people don't flush until they have a known problem and hope a flush is fix all. Unfortunately the problem already exists.

What BillBoost said. People scramble for a tranny flush or fluid/filter after the problem shows up, it too late. You might glean a few more miles out of it but trannies will not "heal" themselves. Transmissions are big $'* to fix even if you can do it yourself. I just spent aforementioned big $'* to have my transmission rebuilt. The fluid was in horrible shape and dropping the pan revealed a terminal condition. The car had 157k on it and I doubt the fluid had ever been changed. I figure that is why the car ended up at an auction. Do your tranny a favor, go to a shop that will drop the pan and do a through fluid change. Same with the coolant. It would really suck to get stranded somewhere for the relatively few dollars the proper service is going to cost.
