I think NOS finally blew the MAF.
 

Last night my car ran normal, but when I left the house today I heard a loud whine coming from the engine. I turned down the stereo and it was my intake sucking in more air than it should and when I looked down my rpms were at 2100 (I was stopped). I turned the car off, checked under the hood, and started her back up. SES light came on...ok good I thought, at least I can get some codes. The car ran great on the highway and I had no problems. To make a long story short it chugs like an old big block with a large loping cam for the first 30 seconds you start it, but then it levels out. (I noticed the air/fuel gauge stays VERY lean when it runs rough, then it goes VERY rich for a split second, and finally goes back into the normal loop when the idle goes back to normal).

Anyway, I went to the local dealer and they pulled code 101 (MAF). Me and a close mechanic talked for awhile and we settled on the 99.9% chance that the nitrous toasted the MAF.

How many bottles have you ran across the maf?
Do you still use the maf screen?
Is the nos plumbed in the top or bottom of the intake pipe? Just wondering if the nos placement may have added to the maf failure?

Sounds plausible, i'd dtry cleaning it first.

The MAF going bad wont suck more air. Remember how an engine is throttled, your foot moves the plate inside, the more air getting pulled in, is read by the maf, which adjusts fuel. A bad maf won't cause more air then :wink:

Hows the throttle feel in the pedal?

I wouldn't think it was the nitrous since your using a dry kit unless the jet is drectly pointed at the MAF.

One thing is for sure, the computer is pointing directly at the MAF. We know that much.

The MAF screen was removed long ago. The nossle is placed upstream of the MAF in the right side of the intake pipe about 5 inches from the TB. The nitrous runs across the MAF. Also, the throttle pedal feels normal.

I took the MAF off and noticed that one of the 2 wires is pitch black while the other is a much lighter color. What do you suggest I use to try to clean it? Otherwise I'll have to buy a new MAF (which I'm expecting is the case as is).

sounds to me like you will probably need to replave the MAF. I wouldn't try to clean it... The wires are to delicate to try it... Unless you have a very small q-tip or something and a very staedy hand i wouldn't try cleaning it.

Disconnect the wires from the maf... It will run considerably better, but not as good as a working maf... If the maf is your problem...

I am scared to ask, but what sdoes MAF stand for?

Mass Air Flow (sensor)

When you mash the gas, a plate rotates from wide to thin in the throttle body. When the air is naturally sucked in by the engine, it goes over this sensor. The sensor see's all the air rushing by, and sends a certain signal. Once the PCM gets this signal, it adjusts fuel. :wink:
