I goofed!!!!

I accidentally poured about 2 1/2 gallons of leaded racing fuel into the tank of my '97 SSEI... I was worried it may harm the catalytic converter.. i've had someone else tell me just to fill the tank with premium unleaded and not to worry about it.. that it would take more than running that much leaded fuel through the system to do any harm or damage to the converter.. can anybody comment on that ???

thanks for your help

Top off the tank w/ 93 octane throw in a can of NOS fuel booster...AND HAVE FUN!!!! :bigsmiley:

thanks for the reply. i did that! tank is full and i'm definitely having fun but i was looking for some type of response from someone who might know if putting in the leaded fuel is gonna harm the catalytic converter or not? I get the impression you say.. no problem??

Well...I don't believe just a couple of gals...to the tank won't harm it in any way....It's not like you have been filling up with it for years...RIGHT...

im no expert....but i really dont think you have anything to worry about, i havent heard of anybody's vehicles getting damaged by using a lil.

thanks!

thank you all for your replies.. good to hear it shouldn't be a problem.

if you keep diluting it with non-leaded it should be fine...

92ssei 04-03-2003 08:36 AM

if you keep using it or alot...you might clog up your fuel filter. and it will eventually wreck a cat.....but not for a bit....i think atlest lol

It's true; you should be fine. Back in the mid-'70s when convertors first came out, the owner's manual would usually tell you that if you were caught in an area where unleaded fuel was not yet available, you could put a few gallons in the tank, enough to get you back to Unleaded Fuel Land and fill up again.
