dont ever try cam sensors
since monday i have been working on removing my timing cover to get to the timing chain and gears and over two days from noon to ten have only gotten the crankshaft pulley, engine mount, and water pump off this has been my worst nightmear ever and i dont recommend it for the beginer mechanic

And it always comes in handy to have a Servive manual, as a Haynes or Ciltons will be a bit shady on the diffrent models of the 3800 engine.... They may have a pic or diagram for a Vin C, L, 1, K or even a 3.8 Vin 3.... So its not always on the money...
If you know what you are doing the timming set and interupter can be replaced in a matter of hours..

It took me several afternoons and evenings to replace every gasket but the head gaskets last summer. The lower intake gaskets were just a fraction of the time.
An SE timing cover will come off easier than an L67, because I don't think you have to remove the accessory bracket, which can take a while.

honestly it took the longest to take off the pulley and engine mount the rest was a cake and took nothing more then a few hours like you said
