I'm a faithful member of www.impalassforum.com as I've owned a bunch of b-bodies. A fellow needs help with a 1994 Park Ave. I came over here to see if someone would give a hand up, as I'm not as familiar with the L27. Here was his post...

My wifes 1994 Buick Park Ave. is giving me a migraine. The car sat for two years before we aquired it and I changed, plugs, wires, tranny filter and fluid, fuel filter, belt, air filter, the ussual. Ever since we got it its been running like crap; sometimes it runs fine and other times it surges and stalls. It'* very sporadic and unpredictable.
Sometimes at start up it will sputter like its either starving for fuel or losing ignition; it wil do it for a while stall a few times (10 or so times) then a few miles later be fine for a while (ten or so miles). Other times its fine for 30 plus miles; then starts sputtering, stalling and just as quickly as it started acting up it begins to run fine. When it starts to sputter and I nail the gas it will either do nothing and continue sputtering or snap out of it and accelerate as normal. Also the battery light by the voltage meter turns on and off for whatever reason and does not seem to be connected to the occurrence of the poor driveability. I have about 6 DTC'* all engine related that show up. 2 cam sensor, 4 ICM related (18x signal, ICM failure, etc). I changed the cam sensor and no difference. I haven't changed the ICM do to the cost, but I wanted some opinions before I venture there. I took it to the shop last week and they cleared the codes, test drove it, told me nothing was wrong and charged me 60 bucks. I didn't drive 8 miles and it quit. So, my next thought is maybe the fuel filter on the fuel pump is getting plugged in the tank. If it'* starving for fuel will it set Ignition failure DTC'*? Any thoughts would be greatly apprecieated!!!

Full tuneup to start with, including plugs, wires, and fuel filter. O2 wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Then REMOVE the ICM, clean the bottom of it where it mates to the bracket for a good ground, and apply dielectric grease to the ICM connector. If this doesn't fix it, go to the wrecker and get an ICM for 20 bucks. Do NOT buy a generic replacment brand. Get a USED AC Delco replacement from a wrecker.

Looks like all of the tune-up stuff has been knocked out. So, go straight to the ICM? How about the crank sensor? Saw a few posts of L27s with similar symptoms.

"willwren" over there, too? I'm VIN Guy, from my days years ago running many VINs through the GM VIS system to get SPID sheets and GM repair histories, etc.

We need his actual code numbers. ICM specific codes are rare, and should be believed, but I'll reserve judgement until I see the actual code numbers.

Cam sensor is rarely the issue. Bummer he went that route first, but it is a helluvalot easier to change than the crank sensor.

My gut at this point is either ICM, crank sensor, or associated wiring. But I'll reserve judgement pending more specifics on the codes.

His location would be very much appreciated. Odds are that we have local help for him (tell me he lives in Oregon and make my day).
